Definitely incentivizes me to update #openStreetMap over Google maps which do require cell service to do routing. Developer is very irresponsive too.

Rain hadn’t been on the agenda when we set out a few days earlier, but sure enough - one day the skies went gray, thunder rolled through, and we found ourselves hiking in warm rain for a while. The reward was this - a spectacular but short-lived rainbow adjacent to the peak.

Rather than build ped/bicycle infra like raised crosswalks, reliable shuttle, clearing fallen trees blocking paths, they are adding curbs to car lanes. #carbrain. And #SierraClub should be calling them out and they are not.

The first mile of our trek into Cathedral Range was steep, and we were all settling into the pace, learning the effects of the oxygen difference. About a mile in, it leveled off and we found ourselves in an expansive meadow and the trail mostly disappeared - we were now in “cross country” mode, finding our way without a pre-established trail. And we just climbed, until we found our first night’s destination at dusk.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of exploring Yosemite backcountry with a couple of friends for five days. On our first night in the Cathedral Range, we arrived in camp after 8.5 miles hiking just as day turned to dusk, and a small lake lit up with perfect reflections of the mountain behind. An auspicious beginning.

Today I dusted off my nikon d40 modified for #infrared #photography. This is the Pulgas #Water #Temple in #SanMateoCounty. It is a monument at the terminus of the Hetch Hetchy water pipeline which provides drinking water from #Yosemite to #SanFrancisco.

Was expecting it to be hot but drizzle of rain every so often just enough to keep us cool along with the spray from the vernal falls was very refreshing. Was able to push the little brat to his longest and steepest climb yet…. But have to admit it was also his slowest… but given the fantastic views I don’t blame him for wanting to stop and take photos after every switchback 😂
