So I just finished watching “You People” on Netflix and it was cringey af, as it should be, but was pretty decent. It actually got me thinking— interracial relationships do come with additional stuff to work through. Especially as you start introducing each others world to one another, I think the film did a good job towards the end of highlighting that in a tasteful way. #netflix #youpeople

I watched #YouPeople yesterday but my fatigue kicked in and I fell asleep, so I only saw like the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes.
Basically turned into a cute little short romance film. 😂

I'm just glad the #antisemitism in #YouPeople is near universally hated by #Jews and we don't have to read a ton of self-loathing excuses in the reviews.

#YouPeople (#KenyaBarris, #JonahHill) is greatly underrated, IMHO. (Which admittedly a low bar, since its metacritic score 🎵sucks!🎵) Thoughtful, often (intentionally) cringey, often laugh out loud funny. Well done 👏👏

Alright I took one for the team and watched the entire #YouPeople. I would like to kick #JonahHill's ass for this shanda.

What an awful film experience.

It did a good job of minimizing typical film tropes of black people. Although there were some.

But it more than made up for it by its complete destruction and misrepresentation of American #Jews. Disparaging us in both traditional and novel ways as well as subbing us in for all of white America on top of it.

An hour in and there was an excruciating scene with Jonah Hill asking the parents permission to marry their daughter but had nothing on the scene with both sets of parents. There are zero scenes that legitimize Jews. No scene that portrays then as real people. No scene that portrays them as anything but the recipients of unfairly earned multi-generational wealth. Including as getting rich from the slave trade.

@JasonW I'm 30 mins in and we've portrayed Jews as pedophiles and sexual misogynists, black culture fetishists, and portrayed as white waspy tokenizing rich people.

The NOI discussion in the smoothie place had a bit of depth.
