So this is tricky.

I wanted to figure out how to follow a PeerTube Instance from Mastodon. It took me a bit but here's how to do it.

First, a quick outline of the architecture.
1. Primary PeerTube Site
2. Instances
3. Video Channels

This works a little differently than Mastodon. You can go to the primary site, or an instance and browse all you want, but you can't follow at that level.

So think of #3, "Video Channels" as people. That's where you follow. As long as it's federated, you can follow it.

When viewing the video catalog, you'll see the handle as the bottom link under the video. Click on that handle and now you'll see the subscribe button. Choose "Subscribe with a remote account", type in your own handle and click on "Remote Subscribe."

It will take you to a page that says "Follow [channel]". And you're done!

I hate the way YouTube works now and the fall of Twitter shows that we don't have to put up with poor implementation and hardcore monetising to get good user generated content just because they are the biggest platform now.

It's meant to prevent google from tracking your viewing habits, and to prevent you from falling down their algorithmic rabbit holes. Seems like this should become the new normal for YouTube browsing!
