Before I even left for #Croatia, I had researched a bit about #Yugoslav #NewWave music. This is an excellent compilation of the more #PostPunk style. Interestingly, the people at a record store couldn't believe I had bought this down the street as apparently there's some big dispute going between the singer and their label. I was told to cherish this #CD, so I will!

I was in Ljubljana for one day and took that opportunity to find something local. I was introduced to this record by a kind shopkeeper. It's some very clean and upbeat #synthpop & #newwave from #80s #yugoslavia, unfortunately not picked up anywhere else it seems. This is only my first listen but I'm already very impressed! (I wonder if this hashtag is actually about the band though... EDIT: no.)

Ok, let’s talk about #Yugoslavia and why balkanizing eastern Ukraine is bullshit. Yugoslavia was a patchwork nation of all kinds of religions and ethnicities that were held together by a single charismatic leader, Tito. After his death there was nobody strong enough to hold things together, and eventually the #Serbs (long-time allies of Russia…) kicked off a genocidal rampage that led to #NATO intervention and the #Balkans as we know them today.

@FarmingWarMech I try and give him the benefit of the doubt, first because he's the one true raccoon god, and second because he does properly talk about the goodness of socialist #yugoslavia now and then.

But yeah, he seems to be more and more just a slav boomer unable to deal with a time where revolution is becoming necessary. Like lots of #Boomers, he was shaped in a time of plenty and cannot adapt to our time of emergency.
