Today was my first class of the semester. 20% of the grade is an in class presentation on an essay. Prof shared the list of essays and said if we saw one we wanted let him know. I selected "Capitalism and Schizophrenia" based entirely on the title.

The next post in my #MentalHealthInTheMovies project is now live!
From Girl to King: Borderline Personality Disorder
Girl, Interrupted (Columbia Pictures, 1999) and The King of Staten Island (Universal Pictures, 2020) were released two decades apart. Read on for a discussion of the similarities and differences due to gender and time.

8. Canvas. Well this is dysfunctional Picard family the movie. And it's hard to watch. But good. #YvettePicardMatters
7. The Soloist. This gets a you tried star. Interesting at times but dragged. Not even a little bit about Yvette (but reminded me of DS9’s “Past Tense” more than Picard S2 did). #YvettePicardMatters
6. King of Staten Island. What a kind movie. Have to squint to find any Picards in it, but there are themes. Art. Early childhood trauma. Mental illness. Team as family. #YvettePicardMatters
Girl, Interrupted holds up y'all.
5. Girl, Interrupted. In which women matter but also definitely do not. Relies on stereotypes but also interrogate/subverts them. The origin of my obsession with Angelina Jolie. If only Yvette was institutionalized. #YvettePicardMatters
3. The Hours. A film that asks more questions than it provides answers for. It's alllllllll about Yvette AND Jean-Luc.
4. All the Bright Places. Devestating. This one is about Jack if it's about anyone in the Picard bloodline.
Next up: Girl Interrupted
I am incredibly busy and failing at updates but here are the movies we've in class so far and if they relate to #YvettePicardMatters
1. Good Will Hunting. It has nothing to do with Yvette unless you count Sean's Dead Wife being an idealized nonentity. Has plenty to do with Jean-Luc, though.
2. Antwone Fisher. The women characters are a step up from GWH and relates to mothers and motherhood but still more to do with Jean-Luc than Yvette.
The #YvettePicardMatters project officially starts this week, with my first class in "Psychopathology and Psychotherapy in the Movies: Portrayal and Impact" on Thursday. The first movie is:
Good Will Hunting
