@acn128 first milestone reached: the is talking to the via and has just received the Z21 firmware version info (little-endian, lsb first). Quick and dirty code, not very nice ...

And yes, it's so basic you can actually do it on a C64 using Oliver Schmidt's for port - we'll see ...

Okay, I must admit that my recent interest in building and running a may seem quite "old fart" to most people. That's okay, since I am an old fart and I don't mind. I just think it's an underrated hobby that has many facettes of handcraft involved. I like that.

Anyway, what would you people say when I tell you that there is official documentation for the digital train control unit which documents the whole
TCP/IP communication via ?

Now, what else would you say when I tell you that I am very tempted to tinker with on the to try to use this combo to code a simple "makeshift" DCC client?!

Nerdy enough?! 😋

P.S: KipperBASIC is a loadable extension to BASIC 2.0 on the that will make use of any cs8900a based ethernet card (RRnet, 64NIC+ etc.) and add TCP/IP based BASIC commands - just in case you didn't know ...

While not doing any hot retro hard-/software stuff ATM, I still read up on about 40 years of development on the topic. Boy, things have changed!!

Looks like I'm going to mod at least one of my V200 from to - once I get my hands on a digital controller for a reasonable price.

Yesterday, I fixed an old MaK Loco which had a faulty wire going from the bogey to the motor by replacing it *without* burning the whole model. Oh, the engine runs fine again, I'm so proud ... 😎

.oO(in fact, I dig the tech side more than the diorama building stuff TBH)
