Last week at #Villach 🇦🇹 Hbf: #InterCity train #211 to #Vinkovci 🇭🇷 via #Ljubljana 🇸🇮 and #Zagreb 🇭🇷. Some carriages have got opening windows and come with cosy compartments and comfy seats. A few years back, this train, named “Sava”, included through cars from #Munich 🇩🇪 to #Belgrade 🇷🇸.

🇭🇷🚂🚃🚃 After a wonderful morning in #Zagreb🇭🇷, train №210 "Sava" is about to bring us to #Villach🇦🇹 via #Ljubljana🇸🇮. It's a wonderful day, and the beautiful retro livery of HŽ class 1142 "Lepa Brena" is shining in the sun. The engine will work this consist of SŽ & HŽ carriages until #Dobova🇸🇮.

🇭🇷🚂🚃🚃 Finally, one of the last EC159 "Croatia's" direct trips from #Vienna🇦🇹 with @unsereOEBB🇦🇹 rolling stock arrived in #Zagreb🇭🇷 with +46min. Many bikes got unloaded. What a wonderful arrival at an amazing railway station: Zagreb glavni kolodvor 🤩🥰!

🇦🇹🚂🚃 On the journey's last part from the border to #Zagreb🇭🇷 a nerve-wracking slow speed is dominat. Time for a stroll through #ÖBB's beautiful consist with 2nd & 1st class carriages as well as a bicycle storage & a #diningcar, which will run only between Vienna and Graz from 4th Sept. 2023 as EC 358/359 "Croatia" 😭.

🇸🇮🤝🇭🇷 Dobova. Nowadays "only" a decent loco change plays the theater at this border station. Before 2023, it was also a well known #Schengen border checkpoint. A beautiful HŽ class 1141 in #ConnectingEuropeExpress livery will work EC 159 "Croatia's" last bit until #Zagreb🇭🇷.

🇦🇹🌭 The journey continues with EC159 "Croatia" through nice #Slovenia🇸🇮. The sun sets beautifully over the Lavantal Alps🏔 while slowly progressing towards #Zagreb🇭🇷. I'm the only guest at the wonderful #ÖBB🇦🇹 #diningcar & I enjoy my stay with a pair of Viennese sausages with mustard, horseradish & a Kaiser roll 😍!

🇦🇹🥣 But let's continue this wonderful trip with EC159 "Croatia" towards #Zagreb🇭🇷. This train winds up beautiful #UNESCO WHS "Semmering🏔 Railway" with scenic views 😍! At the wonderful fully-fledged #ÖBB🇦🇹 #diningcar I went for a classical beef broth with semolina dumplings & organic spinach dumplings with a romato & fennel ragout.

🇦🇹🚂🚃🚃🇭🇷 Good bye EC 158/159 "Croatia". For the time being, this is the 3rd to last direct #Eurocity-service between the Austrian🇦🇹 capital #Vienna & the Croatian🇭🇷 capital #Zagreb. The #ÖBB🇦🇹 class 1016 030 "Mausbär" is working the train. Cheers🍻 everyone, you'll find me at the wonderful fully-fledged ÖBB #diningcar 😍!

Next to #Zagreb‘s 🇭🇷 main train station: the memorial for the victims of the #Shoah and the #Ustasha regime.
About 800 Jews from Zagreb were deported from here to #Auschwitz, in August 1942.
Many more, including Serbs, Roma and others, were murdered by the Ustasha in #Jasenovac concentration camp, about an hour away.

We've had a calm day in #Zagreb, #Croatia so far today, monitoring the water levels, and hoping the levees don't break. Unfortunately smaller towns and villages on the city's outskirts have been #flooded. The #rainfall in #Slovenia is less severe today, but the situation is still dire. In the meantime, in parts of #BosniaAndHerzegovina and #Serbia, heavy #rain, #wind, and #hail have also wreaked havoc. The #Balkans is getting fucked this year but we'll persevere. ✊
