@svetlyak40wt #Zed is a code editor made by some of the same people that made Atom, another code editor that is now no longer being maintained
I am absolutely comically ECSTATIC about this one feature
@pH_0x05 I use #Zed (https://zed.dev), although I wouldn’t really consider it a full IDE yet. It’s very minimalistic at the moment
Been using #helixeditor as daily driver lately and am impressed 💪 Left wondering if #lapce and/or #zed could separate itself in the IDE game by using helix as its default modal editor 🤔
@oobleck couldn’t agree more!
Yeah I tried both #Helix and #Zed briefly but I’ve definitively settled for #Neovim (#LazyVim) for the same reason you mention.
For some very few tasks I still switch to vscode, where e.g. the Pylance LSP in vscode is more mature/advanced than Pyright when doing larger refactorings.
My battery life on the Apple MacBook Pro M1 is so-so, because of using the #Arc browser. I hope they can fix that drain…
#helix #zed #neovim #lazyvim #arc
#zed #code #texteditor #programming #python #javascript #rust
I write `mod new_module;` in a Rust file and try to create a file for the module through the editor's quick actions:
#JetBrains #Fleet: Doesn't create a file - nothing happens
#Zed: Only creates the file if I'm in Vim Edit Mode, but not while in Vim Normal Mode.
JetBrains #CLion: Actually creates the file (and opens it)
In fairness, the first two are not stable yet
The Zed code editor feels pretty snappy. Thanks https://www.rooftopruby.com/ for the hint. #zed
@cristianrasch yeah, makes sense. I know JS/ #TypeScript support has come a long way in #vim in recent years, too. So maybe I should give it another go 😌 #zed is looking interesting too in its early days
I saw some people posting about https://zed.dev. After downloading it, I need to admit that it is indeed very fast. However, I am not really sure what it tries to solve. #vscode is also pretty fast enough on modern hardware. The obvious advantage of vscode is the customizability via #javascript. Is there something similar planned? At the moment, I don’t see a reason to switch. #zed
#Changelog news mentioned #Zed as a replacement for #SublimeText, but it's not cross platform...
Zed may be a great editor but until it's cross platform it can't replace Sublime.
