Doing some reading on #zettlekasten. If you have tried or like storing knowledge like this, I’d love to know your thoughts or tips for getting started!
I've seen #Obsidian while I was going through #Notion videos and other journal/note taking content. It's local so I didn't pay much attention. Accessing it on many devices is a deciding factor for me.
But my husband found an easy way to sync Obsidian between his phone and computer, so I set it up. And I'm losing my darn mind over how lovely it is. Simple until you don't want it to be. So easily #zettlekasten -able. No internet needed. And I love #markdown.
Imma set it up for work next.

@xynthfauna i don't trust my own notes to be able to share them with the world yet, haha. glad you're sharing, though! do you use #zettlekasten or some other note taking methodology?
I'm in love with organization and making things work well.
I love the ideas behind things like #Zettlekasten, #OrgMode, and more.
Did you know that [the original wiki][1] represents roughly 120MB of data if you convert it to a flat text file? That represents 30 years of knowledge building, so pretty darn good.
If you use WikiText (or CamelCase) then you don't need any fancy tools. #vim, #emacs, or heck #nano and #ed the #StandardEditor are perfectly sufficient.

I've used a #zettlekasten style system at work for a long time as a way of recalling information but haven't really taken it outside of the work environment. It turns out, the graph view in #obsidian is a great way to gamify my learning. It's so satisfying to learn some stuff, generate some orphans, then go completionist mode and start filling in the orphans
Are you into #Zettlekasten, #JohnnyDecimal, #GettingThingsDone or other label/tag based organization? Your messages could easily sport `X-Priority` or `X-Label`.
Add your attachments directly to the email messages.
Collaborating on some software? It may (not) surprise you, but the Linux kernel actually *still* collaborates this way. And it's kind of awesome.
I'm pretty sure it's not, but there's no reason that #GitHub review comments couldn't be an email with some fancy headers.

And templates/method used in Obsidian, this video seems super simple and easy to grok so going to leap into that to get my notes all linking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6ySG7xYgjY #zettlekasten #productivity
I wrote my first essay using a bottom-up process where the key messages are existing atomic notes in the Zettelkasten. Writing this way was far less painful (I might even say enjoyable) than a top-down approach where you start with an idea and then do a ton of leg work to develop it into a cohesive piece. Once I work out the kinks, I'll try and summarise the process itself.

@VGM several people on GTDConnect are doing it successfully. I’m migrating all my GTD customized process doc to an
#ObsidianMD hosted #Zettlekasten along with all the webinar ideas & tips. I’m still a paper and pen guy for projects and higher horizons in #Circa notebooks.

@tedcurran @AriT93 @davew this is great stuff. I just started writing a note-taking tool for all my plain-text notes and hadn’t run across #zettlekasten until now. I might borrow some of these ideas. https://unfit-for.work/posts/2023/nve-editor/
I use #obsidian
Why did I choose Obsidian? I downloaded it, watched Bryan Jenks ‘Comprehensive Obsidian Workflow’ YouTube video and started building.
I had used a wiki before and so the concept of linking notes just clicked.
I sync with icloud and use a combo of #PARA and #Zettlekasten. The mobile app is great.
I don’t store file archives in it. I do this in #DevonThink and deep link both ways. I also index the vault in DevonThink.
Works very well as a #pkm for me!

According to this CNN article, some think that #chatgpt will put writers out of a job. I guess we can save a lot of time abandon all research and note taking! 😝

@krstf check out @kinginmotion posts on the other toot service. He has some really good stuff on #zettlekasten I have encouraged him to post his materials here as well.
Same here.
I would say the most two important #PKM apps I currently own are #Obsidan and #Devonthink - that is why #Hookmark is so useful.
#Obsidian is where I do all my writing and I index the vault in #DevonThink. #DevonThink is my read-it-later and archival tool.
I do a combination of #Zettlekasten and #PARA to integrate my thinking with my work. Here's my current organisation.

@kinginmotion great to find you on Mastodon! I think your #Zettlekasten workflows on #obsidian would be a great contribution to @pkm and the #pkm community in general.
Still setting my #obsidiannotes up. The #Zettlekasten method is interesting. I'm going to try it out so I can see the connections that form between my notes and not impose any superstructure #productivity

I am going through over a decades worth of bookmarks and read it later lists and actually reading and highlighting the interesting parts.
It's several thousand links, some of which I had tagged and have some metadata, others are just a link.
There's some really good content and can see which topics I was investigating 12 years ago etc..
But also a lot of links that are broken, and quite a few must have been popular enough that they now host ad sites and occasionally porn.
It'll probably take me a while but it's quite fun doing some digital archeology.
Somewhere in there I'm pretty sure there's an article about "URLs should live forever". Maybe one day I'll find it again.
My current thinking is my best bet is a #PersonalWiki with file syncing but not otherwise online. There are several options, but I'm most thinking of Zim Wiki or Zettlr. There are a couple of other popular ones but people are oddly cultish about them. I've read a bit about #zettlekasten which seems to be trendy but has apparently been used for a century by scholars and writers, so it's worth taking seriously. It seems more my style than #MindMapping.
