What’s the beef with #zilpaterol? This drug - like other beta-agonists - has been banned for use as a growth promoter in the EU for over two decades. The ban applies to domestic production and imports alike. But some other countries, incl. the US, Brazil and Argentina, allow zilpaterol (and several other growth promoters) to improve muscle growth and feed efficiency in cattle. And these countries consider the EU’s ban as a trade barrier.
