Spannende #Archäologie-Story über einen rätselhaften Fund eines Reiters, der in #Zöbingen #Ostalb im 12. Jhdt. in ein 600 Jahre altes #Alamann-Grab einbrach, u.a. "wohlerhaltene Äpfel" vorfand - der Anlass zum späteren Bau einer Wallfahrtskirche. Dieser wohl älteste "arch. Fund" Süddeutschlands ist inszeniert im #Alamannenmuseum #Ellwangen

The #TreetrunkCoffin is still there in the church's sacristy (don't have a photo unfortunately - the one here depicting a similar but different #Alemannic coffin also found at #Zöbingen - today at @LMWStuttgart@twitter.com).
No idea what happened to the apples, though. 🍎🤔😉

When a rider was caving in near #Zöbingen, the hole (after the horse has been pulled up with some effort) according local reports finally revealed:
A "#Totenbaum" (treetrunk coffin), some well preserved bones, a number of gold finds, and #apples which were "still looking fresh".
A little story of early #archaeology for today's #SundayArchaeology …
Among the colourful frescos in #Zöbingen chapel (Baden-Württemberg, Germany), one is particularly fascinating:
Depicting the 13th century discovery of an even then old (i.e. 6th century) #Germanic burial.
