Zoltan Korda’s The Macomber Affair (1947) is a good example of the impossibility of doing a good Hemingway adaptation. In the 40s and 50s his existentialism had to be hopelessly watered down. Today he's off limits.

This one rips the guts out of Hemingway's story. It becomes a conventional romantic triangle. All the Hemingway-esque elements are gone.

Joan Bennett does her best.
