This is how I label most of my pots when I'm starting seeds. I use an orange Sharpie paint pen and write directly on the pot. It fades a little if the pot is outside for a long time. It shows up great against the black plastic, and best of all, it just wipes off with rubbing alcohol so I can re-use pots.
