Ok. #zstd was the first #Linux port that needs C++11 threads. And, it builds!
My #GNU cross toolchain on #FreeBSD finally seems to work! 🥳
Time to party, hehe. Or, time for bed in fact.
Next step will be a *native* Linux toolchain to build the rest of the #Linuxulator userland.

@jhx I really dislike C++ for a variety of reasons, but that's not relevant here I guess 😎
Right now, #binutils *would* finally build fine, but missing #zstd support.
Trying to build facebook's #zstd first, running into yet another roadblock. For *some* reason, the build doesn't see the definition of "std::mutex" although it looks like the headers installed by #gcc's libstdc++ have it.
Not sure whether it's time to give up yet 😞
Any #compression experts here?
I compressed an archive of nearly identical files (snapshots of the list of my tabs) in two ways.
First, as .tar.zstd, and that gave me 325MiB.
Then, I used #7zip with #lzma2, and got only 35MiB. Much closer to what I expected.
What gives? Is #tar stringing files together in a way that prevents #zstd from detecting duplicate data across files?

Anyone have suggestions for a #typescript library to compress data with #zstd ?
#dar 3/ Dar's homepage is http://dar.linux.free.fr/ . As a simple file archiver tool, dar is great. Random access is preserved, you can compress with #gzip #bzip2 #lzo #xz #zstd or #lz4. You can encrypt with #GnuPG or symmetric #AES. You can stream if you want. You can split ("slice") across multiple media, and dar will prompt you for the slice(s) you need and seek you right to them.
That's cool, but we're just getting started.

I’m super excited that Chrome is trying out the ZStandard compression algorithm. It decompresses much faster than Brotli, with similar compression ratios. #http #zstd https://botsin.space/@intenttoship/110580785640136248
Today I learned: Linux has multiple cats. 😺
For every single file compressor: #gzip, #bzip2, #lzma, #xz, and #zstd, there is a matching cat command: zcat, bzcat, lzcat, xzcat, and zstdcat. #TIL #TodayILearned #Cats #Cat
#gzip #bzip2 #lzma #xz #zstd #til #todayilearned #cats #cat
Accidentally double compressing your backups with #zstd is a really good way to give yourself a heart attack

Fun fact: #ZSTD + #BYTEDELTA is unreasonably efficient compressing synthetic data.
7.7x better ratio than ZSTD + SHUFFLE, and more than 1600x better than plain ZSTD.
And still compressing at more than 9 GB/s (!)
