I woke up liking #zulip a lot 👌

1) The UI is well-organized and doesn't suffer from "noise" the same way that Slack and Matrix/Element does.

2) Bots are easy to create and configure. In this example, the configuration of my GitHub bot is actually the events that I choose for the webhook on GitHub (which is very easy to configure btw).

It is with sorrow that I prepare to say goodbye to #Zulip. Our office and greater organization has decided upon #MicrosoftTeams, and comms require everyone to play along. Nonetheless I am compiling a list of pros and cons. I had nothing but positive to say about my personal dealings with Zulip and expect us to be able to come back when my colleagues realize that Teams is inferior.

Personally I prefer solutions like #Zulip that come with a good #API amd thus allow 3rd party clients like #Barnowl to support easily.

#Discord is one of the WORST TOOLS EVER since it's #bloated like #Windows, unsearchable like #Slack, full of illegal tracking shit like #MicrosoftTeams and doesn't add any value compared to #IRC or #Zulip + #Mumble or #JitsiMeet.

Espechally if people abuse it for things that it was never good in, like #IssueTracking, #Support, #Documentation etc.

Everyone who even suggests using Discord for that is an ableist asshole who loves #LoginWalls and should be banned!

It further integrates with #JitsiMeet (and even #BigBlueButton) so if one needs a #voicechat / #videochat or #presentation done, it just works.

I just used #jitsi for the first time, both thanks to #zulip and also because of the ongoing issues with #Zoom and privacy (which should be a surprise to no one, except my employers...). Jitsi worked like a dream: no lag, sharp video, and totally functional screen sharing #SatisfiedUser #OpenSourceWin

Both are - like #JitsiMeet - available not only as #ManagedService from several providers but also #SelfHosting-capable.

@elr @neurovagrant @Seirdy because #Signal can't be #SelfHosted (unlike #XMPP and even #Zulip) I can't recommend or use it any professional capacity because I've to comply with #GDPR & #BDSG and that includes evidently having control over data and being able to comply with #auditability and #datadeletion requests in any organization.

Also #Signal does collect #PhoneNumbers and enforces #Cyberfacist embargos.

IMHO self-hosting a #Zulip Server works good for organizational structures.

If you want something you can #SelfHost, give #Zulip a chance.

If you want #VoiceChat, consider #Mumble.

But that's your choice.

I chose different because I don't want to illude people with false security when their comms being secure may be a life-or-death situation.

In some cases I did setup a dedicaded & private #Zulip server for that where all messages remain on the server and can be wiped in an instance should said person be forced to unlock stuff at gunpoint.
